Building on a long history of conservation law enforcement, in 2020, officers involved in forestry, inland fish, and wildlife enforcement, were brought together to establish a multi-function law enforcement division focused on conservation of the province’s natural resources.
Conservation Officers are responsible for enforcing the following:
- Wild Life Act
- Forestry Act
- Federal Fisheries Act
- Endangered Species Act
- Environmental Protection Act
- Water Resources Act
- Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Act
- Animal Health and Protection Act
- Lands Act
- Off-Road Vehicles Act
Conservation Officers are also responsible for supporting compliance with the province’s Environmental Management System, which is registered to the ISO 14001:2015 standard.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Conservation Officers have been designated as Inspectors under the Public Health Protection and Promotion Act providing border patrol at the province’s various points of entry.
